Why are Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone still in charge?

There's nothing like the sweet, sweet feeling of spring training in the year. After an awful season last year when the Yankees went 82-80 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the faithful in New York are hoping for a better year.

It doesn't take a genius to realize last fall that Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman saved their jobs by bringing up Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells to the majors. All of New York was calling for their jobs when there was no sign of the playoffs in the Bronx. To bring some fan excitement back into the season, they FINALLY brought up the two prospects Yankee fans have been waiting for the last two years. Jasson Dominguez, aka "The Martian," played eight games in the pinstripes and put up an impressive four home runs, seven RBIs, and eight hits. Just like most fans, I was very excited to see him in the starting lineup for 2024 and get an entire major league season under his belt. However, with Alex Verdugo's and Juan Soto's offseason acquisition, a starting job is not waiting for him in the Bronx. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him a spot on the bench, allowed him to sub in for a couple of games each month, and switch off with Stanton for the DH position. This situation with Judge, Verdugo, Soto, and Dominguez as the rotating outfield does make me confident and pumped for the season because the Yankees have the best outfield in the MLB.

Austin Wells was an excellent addition at the end of the season. Wells was a top Yankee prospect since he was drafted in 2020, and his call-up to the majors was overdue. He was able to play in 19 games and collected 16 hits, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs, and posted a .229 batting average. It is not the hottest start, but some big-league experience will help him in the upcoming season. With Jose Trevino dealing with injuries, Wells will be on the roster at the season opener and may even be the starter, depending on his spring training performance.
