Spring Training Weekend #2 Highlights and Review

This weekend was packed with some great baseball action as we got strong baseball out of the Yankees! Let's dive into the highlights.

Stroman took the mound for the Yankees on Saturday, taking on the Baltimore Orioles. It was a much better start for him after a not-so-hot performance earlier in the week against the Phillies. On Saturday, Stroman pitched four complete innings, only allowed two hits, no earned runs, and pitched three strikeouts. Stroman is a great pitcher to watch because he pitches with a lot of movement and strength. He throws a lot of down-and-dirty pitches that stay low in the zone, which allows him to be a strikeout pitcher. I think for the rest of his spring appearances, we will see his strikeout count rise as he dials in the pitch control.

On Saturday, we also saw Volpe swinging the bat pretty well. He had two hits in three at-bats against the Orioles to raise his spring batting average to .385. Last year, his batting average hovered around .200, so I'm hoping he can raise his average to stay around .270 this year and potentially develop into a premier leadoff hitter for the Yankees.

On Sunday, we got another look at the Juan Soto Show!!!! Soto hit his third home run in his nine at-bats this spring. He looks genuinely incredible in the Yankees lineup, and once he lands in the Bronx, the City will storm to Yankee Stadium to get tickets for his home game debut when the Yankees take on the Blue Jays on April 5th.

The starting pitcher on Sunday was none other than Nestor Cortez, who thankfully had a strong pitching performance after a not-great start to his spring this last week. Cortez pitched four innings, allowed one hit and one earned run, and collected three strikeouts.
