The Yanks Lose 0-3 to the Blue Jays in the Home Opener : Read the Highlights
The Yankees were disappointing in their home opener Monday afternoon, losing 0-3 against the Toronto Blue Jays.....
Marcus Stroman made his Yankee Stadium debut on Monday, and the Long Island native pitched fantastic! Stroman pitched six scoreless innings, striking out six batters and only allowing three hits and one walk. After only two starts for the Yankees this season, I can confidently say the Yankees got a great deal on him, paying him $37 million over two years. Stroman is a clear number two starter in the rotation after Cole, and clearly ahead of Rodón and Cortes. After Stroman the bullpen did not look good as Ferguson came in and gave up a home run in the 7th, Santana pitched the bases loaded in the 9th, and Berti came in for relief and threw two wild pitches allowing two runs to score making it 3-0 Blue Jays.
Unfortunately the other starter in this game also pitched a great game, as Yusei Kiluchi pitched 5.1 innings, striking out 7 Yankee batters and allowing no runs. The Yankee's offense was stagnant Monday as they collected only 6 hits and were struck out 11 times by the Blue Jays pitchers. In the bottom of the 9th with two runners on and two outs, Verdugo was 5 feet short of a game-tieing home run, but unfortunately, it was the final out to seal the game for Toronto. It was a disappointing Yankee Stadium debut for Juan Soto, who went 0-4 with two strikeouts, but it was still great to see him making some impressive plays out in right field.
Let's hope the Yankees shake off the loss and show some offensive power on Saturday, with Clark Schmidt pitching a solid start!
