Reviewing the Big Boy, number 27 Giancarlo Stanton!

Giancarlo Giancarlo! The Big Number 27! The man who can hit a line drive over 500 feet with a half swing. I love Stanton because I know there is a chance he will rock a pitch every time he steps up to the plate and send it 100 feet over the fence. That being said, his performance has declined dramatically since his last year on the Marlins in 2017. The Yankees acquired him from Miami with the massive $325 million 13-year contract with four more guaranteed years left, with Stanton pulling in $32 million yearly.

Stanton has had injury issues, but for the last three years, he has been able to play over 100 games each season, primarily at DH, with an occasional outfield assignment. 2021 was Stanton's best year on the Yankees, hitting .273, 35 home runs, and collecting 139 hits. 2022 and 2023 were completely different stories, in both seasons Stanton hit below .215, less than 100 hits, and an OBP below .300.

With the size and length of the contract, he won't be getting traded, so until 2027, he will be wearing pinstripes. It's easy to get depressed thinking about the waste of money he is at the current moment, but he is truly a great DH for the Yankees roster. The Yankees line-up is filled with batters who get on base, and Giancarlo is always a risk to hit a home run, or at the least get a sacrifice fly. I'm optimistic that 2024 will be a great year for Stanton after an abysmal performance in 2023. Only time will tell what 2024 Stanton will look like, but one can hope it's filled with a batting average above .280 and at least 35 home runs. I'm pulling for you Giancarlo!
