The Yankees Crush The Marlins 7-0! Read the Highlights!
The Yankees crushed the Marlins 7-0 Monday, led by Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto!
The Yankees put up an impressive offensive performance on Monday, recording a combined 9 hits and 5 walks. The fourth inning proved particularly fruitful for the team, with Anthony Volpe smashing a massive three-run home run, his second of the year. Shortly after, Juan Soto hit another three-run home run, also his second of the year. It was a great night for Giancarlo Stanton and Alex Verdugo as well, both managing to record a multi-hit game. These two players have been struggling to raise their batting averages, so it was encouraging to see them hopefully finding their rhythm at the plate.
In his third start of the season on Monday, Nestor Cortes demonstrated a marked improvement in his performance. He pitched 8 scoreless innings, striking out 6 batters and only allowing 2 hits and no walks! While it's true that Miami's offensive struggles this year may have played a part, it's still a positive sign for Cortes, who was in need of a rebound after a disappointing last start against the Diamondbacks. This performance could be a turning point for him, and the Yankees need him to perform like he did on Monday, as Cole will still be out of the rotation for a few more weeks. After Cortes, Josh Maciejewski made his major league debut, pitching the 9th inning for the Yankees. He was perfect, getting two groundball outs and one flyout to close the game for the Yankees!
The Yankees have two more games against the Marlins in this series, and I'm not crazy when I say I'm 99% confident we should win both games! Stay tuned to our blog for all game recaps, news, and videos on the New York Yankees, and remember to follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
