The Yankees lose 0-2 in a defensive battle to the Rays : Read the Highlights
The Yankees and the Rays battled in a defensive showdown Saturday night, with unfortunately the Yankees losing 0-2.
Nestor Cortes pitched for the Yankees on Saturday and had an outstanding game. He pitched for 7.0 innings, allowing no earned runs, striking out nine batters, and only allowing six hits. This was his best performance of the year so far, which is great to see, as he had a tough start to the season. Luke Weaver and Clay Holmes also did a great job pitching in the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, and only allowed one hit while getting three strikeouts. However, Caleb Ferguson performed poorly and lost the game for the Yankees in the 10th inning. Ferguson allowed two hits and two runs were scored (one earned run), which gave the Rays the win. Ferguson has consistently been the worst reliever out of the bullpen, with a current ERA of 6.23. It would be wise for Boone not to put him in the game when it's tied!
The Yankees had a rough day at the plate on Saturday, as their offense was practically non-existent. They only managed to get four hits and a single walk, and to make matters worse, they were struck out nine times. Interestingly, two of the four hits the Yankees got were from the amazing Juan Soto, who I believe should be a Yankee for life! On the other hand, Aaron Judge is still struggling to find his hitting rhythm, as he went 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. It's concerning to see the fans at Yankee Stadium booing the captain.
The Yankees now play the Rays on Sunday to decide who wins the series. Let's hope Luis Gil can pitch well to lead the Yankees to another series win!
