The Yankees Lose 0-2 in Baltimore… Read The Recap!
The Yankees, despite a strong pitching performance, lost the first game of the Baltimore series 0-2. Once again, the pitching staff was left in a tough spot after a lack of offensive success.
Clark Schmidt made the start for the Yankees in the first game of the series against the Orioles on Monday, pitching 5.2 innings. He performed well, allowing only three hits and one earned run, which was a home run in the first inning. Despite his impressive performance, the Yankees failed to provide him with enough offensive support, and he ended up with a loss in the box score. Santana, Ferguson, and Holmes combined to pitch the remaining 2.1 innings, allowing only one hit and no earned runs. However, in the 8th inning, Anthony Volpe made his 4th error of the year, allowing Baltimore to score their second run of the game.
The Yankees managed to get 7 hits and 3 walks on Monday night. However, they had a hard time converting those baserunners into runs and ended up leaving 10 runners on base. This has been an ongoing issue for the team, and it must be frustrating for the pitching staff, given the starting rotation has been performing exceptionally well. Currently, the Yankees have the second-lowest pitching ERA in baseball, which is 3.02, just behind the Boston Red Sox. It's very disappointing to see the Yankees unable to score against their top competitor in the division, especially after two consecutive days of scoring 15 runs.
Regardless, the Yankees have three more games in Baltimore, and with the Yankees and Orioles at the top of the AL East separated by 0.5 games, these are must-win opportunities for the Yankees!
