The Yankees Win 3-2 against the Guardians : Read the Highlights!

The Yankees beat the Guardians 3-2 in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday.

Clark Schmidt started on the mound for the Yankees on Saturday morning and had a solid performance! Schmidt pitched for five innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, five walks, and struck out seven batters. Unfortunately, in the sixth inning, Schmidt left the bases loaded for Ferguson to take over with no outs. Ferguson did his job brilliantly by striking out the first batter and getting the second batter to hit into an easy double play. However, Gleyber Torres (The Error King of New York) made a poor throw to first base, which allowed two runs to score. Thankfully, Ian Hamilton and Clay Holmes pitched lights out to close the game for the Yanks!

Offensively, the Yankees were able to get a significant number of hits during the game, but they had trouble converting the base runners into runs. The team had a total of 10 hits, 6 walks, and left 9 runners on base! It was great to see Cabrera back in the lineup, and he proved his worth by hitting a two-run home run in the 6th inning. Judge, Verdugo, Trevino, and Rizzo all had a great game, with multiple hits and good performances at the plate. Unfortunately, the game should have been a blowout, but Trent Grisham, the backup centerfielder, hit into two double plays with the bases loaded. I didn't like it when the Yankees traded for him in the Soto trade, and I don't understand why he is still in the majors. Grishman is yet to get a hit in his eight plate appearances and has only managed to get one walk. It's time to STOP putting him in the lineup! He STINKS!!!!

The Yankees get about 3 hours of rest before the second game of the doubleheader. Stay tuned! We will have the recap of game #2 right here on Baseballinthebronx.com!
