The Yankees drop the last game in the Baltimore series, losing 2-7 on Thursday.
Carlos Rodón had a tough outing against the Orioles. He pitched only 4.0 innings and gave up six earned runs and eight hits. His struggles began after the first two innings, giving up three home runs and a barrage of hits in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th inning. This performance dropped his record to 2-2 with an ERA of 3.95. Despite him starting the season significantly better than he did last year, this was a painful game to watch. However, credit needs to be given to Marinaccio and Tonkin, who pitched the last 4.0 innings without allowing a hit or walk.
The Yankees once again had trouble turning baserunners into runs. They collected six hits and three walks in the game but left seven runners on base and were 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The only runs for the Yankees came from an Anthony Rizzo RBI single in the 1st inning and a Gleyber Torres home run in the 6th inning, which was his first home run of the year. Torres, who is on a one-year "prove it" contract this year, has had a terrible start to the season offensively and defensively, so he needs to keep up the power at the plate if he wants to stay a Yankee past this year.
The Yankees lost the series against Baltimore 1 to 3, but the Yanks now head back to the Bronx to take on the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series. Let's hope the Yankees can get back to winning!
