The Yankees Sweep the Astros with a close 4-3 Win : Read the Highlights!

The Yankees pulled off another close victory over the Astros, 4-3, thanks to the series hero, Juan Soto! Soto went 3 for 5 on Sunday with the game-winning RBI in the 9th inning. It was a close matchup, with several Yankees collecting hits but not necessarily converting runs, as the Yankees were only 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Trevino and Stanton both went 1 for 4 with RBIs in critical moments of the game. Yankee fans got the first look at Jon Berti, who played third base and hit 9th in the order. The late addition to the roster looked good, as he went 1 for 4 with an RBI in the 4th inning. Unfortunately, Judge is still cold at the plate, as he has two hits in twelve at-bats to start the season. I'm hoping after a nice long relaxing plane ride to Arizona, he begins to get back into a hitting groove.

Clark Schmidt made his regular season debut on the mound and looked decent in his 5.1 innings. He collected five strikeouts and allowed seven hits and three earned runs. After Schmidt, Jonathan Loaisiga came in for relief in the 6th inning and totally SUCKED! Loaisiga, in his first seven pitches, allowed three hits, letting the Astros collect two runs and tie the game 3-3. Along with Loaisiga, Clay Holmes came in the 9th to close the game for the Yankees and did not look good.

Thankfully, the offseason acquisitions made fantastic plays that allowed the Yankees to win the last game in the series. Jon Berti made a phenomenal play on a ground ball from an Altuve hit that would have ended the game. Then, with two outs, Alex Verdugo made a great slide catch to close the game and give the Yankees the win!

Tomorrow, the Yankees are in Arizona, taking on the Diamondbacks in a three-game series. Check back here at Baseballinthebronx.com and our social media pages for all game recaps, blogs, and videos on the New York Yankees!
