The Yankees Crushed the Pirates Thanks to Giancarlo Stanton!!!
The Yankees are firing off all cylinders!! Yesterday, they crushed the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-0! The Bronx Bombers are in full force, looking like they didn't take the winter off. Giancarlo Stanton led the Yankees by going 3 for 3 with three home runs, one of which was a grand slam. In total, Stanton had 8 RBIs and could not look any better at the plate. This spring, he has a .314 batting average from 35 at-bats, even after starting the spring hitting 1 for 20. Since March 11th, Stanton has hit 8 for 14 with one double and four home runs.
The past few seasons have been tough for Stanton, who has primarily played at DH for the last three years, with an occasional outfield assignment. 2021 was Stanton's best year with the Yankees, when he hit .273, 35 home runs, and collected 139 hits. 2022 and 2023 were completely different stories. In both seasons, Stanton hit below .215, had less than 100 hits, and had an OBP below .300.
But this spring, Giancarlo has an entirely different build. Stanton slimmed down over the winter and seemingly hasn't lost any power, as he is still hitting home runs over 450 feet. Stanton looks similar to when he played for the Marlins when he had a .290 batting average. One can only hope he brings back the same performance from his early years in the majors, as the Yankees need him to be a top-tier DH in the heart of the lineup. If Stanton keeps this hitting streak up when the season starts next week, no one will be happier than me! I've been a fan of Giancarlo since he played for the Marlins, and I want him to consistently hit home runs in the Bronx alongside Judge, Soto, and Rizzo. The four of them firing off all cylinders will easily lead the Yankees to a World Series!
