The Yanks Lose 1-3 Against the A’s Splitting the Series 2-2. Read The Recap

The Yankees struggled to turn baserunners into runs as the Yankees lost 1-3 against the Oakland A's.

The Yankees collected eleven hits and three walks on Thursday but only managed to score one run. Once again, the Yankees left eleven runners on base, not taking the opportunity to convert them into runs. Gleyber Torres put on a clinic of bad baserunning as he got caught stealing and was picked off on first base! The only offensive highlight from Thursday was Jose Trevino hitting a home run to the short porch in right field to give the Yankees their only run of the night.

Nestor Cortes continued his alternating pattern of one good and one mediocre game as he pitched seven innings on Thursday, allowing five hits and three earned runs. He struck out only four batters. While Cortes is not pitching poorly, he is not receiving enough run support from the Yankees. With a 1-2 record, and a 3.50 ERA, the question arises whether he will be benched once Cole returns in a few weeks. Luis Gil is performing remarkably well, and the Yankees will have to give him a spot in the rotation. The question then becomes, who will be moved to the bullpen? Could it be Cortes? Only time will tell. In the last two innings, Dennis Santana and Victor Gonzalez had strong outings, allowing only one hit and no earned runs, giving the Yankees a chance in the ninth inning.

Unfortunately, the Yankees did not take advantage in the 9th and lost the game 1-3, splitting the series 2-2 with the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers in a three-game set starting Friday. Let's hope the Yankees get back on a winning streak!
