The Yankees lose in Extra Innings 7-8 Against Cleveland - Read the Highlights

The Yankees win the series but lose the last game 7-8 against the Cleveland Guardians. On Sunday afternoon, Nestor Cortes took the mound against Cleveland. Although he started the game strong, striking out four batters in the first two innings, he eventually faltered and allowed five hits and four earned runs. After Cortes left the game, Burdi, Gonzalez, and Clay Holmes performed exceptionally in their innings, not allowing any runs. Unfortunately, in the 8th inning, Luke Weaver gave up another home run to former Yankee Estevan Florial, ultimately giving the lead to the Guardians. Then, in the 10th inning, with the Yankees leading 7 to 5, Caleb Furguson came in for the save but unfortunately blew it, allowing two hits and two earned runs.

The Yankees' offense on Sunday was mainly driven by the home runs of Aaron Judge and Jose Trevino. Judge hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his third home run of the year, and Jose Trevino got his first home run of the year in the fourth inning. However, the star player of the game was Anthony Volpe. He went 3 for 4 and hit a clutch RBI double to tie the game in the 9th inning. Volpe is currently the hottest hitter for the Yankees, and I am glad that Aaron Boone moved him to the lead-off spot in the lineup. The game went into the 10th inning, and the Yankees had a chance to win it thanks to a massive two-run RBI single from Anthony Rizzo. Unfortunately, Ferguson blew the game in the bottom of the 10th, and the Yankees lost the game.

The New York Yankees will fly out to Toronto tonight to face the Blue Jays in a three-game series starting Monday. The Yankees have won all five series this year, and they can continue this impressive performance, especially since DJ LeMahieu is expected to return to the lineup within the next three weeks!
