The Yankees lose 0 to 7 in the loss to the Diamondbacks : Read the Highlights
The Yankees were shutout on Tuesday in the 0 to 7 loss to the Diamondback, handing the Yankees their first loss of the season.
Nestor Cortes took the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday night and absolutely SUCKED!!! He started the game throwing a bullpen session to the Diamondbacks as they completely teed-off on Cortes, who pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, 8 hits, and 2 walks. After Cortez, Gonzalez and Cousins came in for relief to pitch the last three innings. Both relievers are new to the Yankees in 2024, and they did not make a great impression tonight..... They combined for 4 hits, 3 earned runs, and two walks.
The mood in the dugout must have been depressing after a disastrous 1st inning, as the Yankees did not have any offense. The only three hits the Yankees collected tonight came off the bat of Volpe, Soto, and Cabrera. At least those three are still hitting every game, so tonight isn't all bad!
Sadly, it was unrealistic to think the Yankees would go 162-0 this season, so the first loss was inevitable. That being said, a 5 and 1 start is still great. Also, Nestor Cortes is not the roster's best, second-best, or third-starter. On Wednesday, the Yankees will have Carlos Rodón start the game, and I am confident that he will bounce back from a terrible season last year. He showed substantial improvement in spring training and in his first start against the Astros last week, so I'm counting on a solid start tomorrow. Let's forget about the loss and look forward to the Yankees winning on Wednesday!
